Retro Pop Magazine ★★★★★
“Arriving two years after the ‘90s icon’s surprise comeback ‘Boomerang’, the new project is without question her most diverse to date, fusing the hip-hop icon’s first love with elements of pop, EDM, new wave and disco for a non-stop run of unapologetic anthems. ”
Music OMH ★★★★
“Her best album yet majors on music that proves slick and sassy – but above all, it’s a huge amount of fun.
The resurgence of Betty Boo continues. The 2022 album Boomerang, begun during lockdown, saw the release of her first new music in 30 years – and on the evidence of its sequel, Rip Up The Rulebook, her fire for writing new music has been well and truly reignited.”

” Betty Boo had her imperial popstar phase 35 years ago now (way to feel old), when she hit the Top 10 twice in the same year, and then after a second album two years later, she was gone just as quickly as she had arrived. And then there was radio silence.
That’s until 2022, when critically-acclaimed comeback album Boomerang saw her back in the charts, with 2024 follow-up Rip Up The Rulebook being also well received, this revival led to the re-release this week of her first two records (Boomania and GRRR! It’s Betty Boo), all of which has prompted her to tour properly for the first time in her career, hoping to give those reissue sales a Boo-st (sorry).”
If you missed First Ladies of Hip Hop you can watch the whole series on BBC iPlayer.
